We believe that peer feedback is a powerful tool for writer improvement. As a result, we facilitate writing groups of peers at similar academic levels. The groups meet weekly for up to 2 hours per session at a designated location on campus. They comprise students from a variety of language backgrounds and disciplines all coming together to discuss their current writing projects. The groups will start shortly after the start of the semester, so that students are aware of their writing assignments.
How it works:
In order to be a member of the group, you must be working on a piece of writing. You will be required to bring your work to each group session. In the first session, members will introduce themselves and provide details about their writing. At this point, members are asked to think critically about the help they need and establish expectations for giving and receiving feedback. The groups encourage members to work with peers from other faculties or fields of study. This pushes writers to be clearer in their writing, since the readers may not be privileged to field-specific details.
