Keynote speakers

Dr. Dagmar Knorr has been head of the bilingual Writing Center at Leuphana University Lüneburg since 2017, and a researcher and instructor of academic writing since the 1990s. Her work focuses on scientific writing in multilingual contexts, and in particular deals with writing processes in the domain of science and the specific requirements of writing in German as a second/foreign language. She has held various teaching assignments at universities in Germany and Italy, and was head of the Schreibwerkstatt Mehrsprachigkeit at the University of Hamburg from 2011 to 2016. https://www.leuphana.de/universitaet/personen/dagmar-knorr.html

Dr. Deborah Bennett specializes in teaching English for Research Purposes. She holds both a PhD in Mathematical Biology and M.A. (Magister Artium) in Teaching English for Academic Purposes, providing her with a unique perspective on STEM and technical English writing instruction. Dr. Sarah Brommer is a linguist at the German department of the University of Zurich. In the context of a research project, she has studied the writing skills of young people in connection with the use of new media. She wrote her dissertation on the exemplary use of language in scientific texts. Her work intersects with writing research, text linguistics, stylistics, language norms, and writing didactics and is methodologically based on corpus linguistics approaches.
