D-intensiv: German intensive language courses for prospective students

Wo are we and why are our courses right for you?

The Fachsprachenzentrum, or Centre for Applied Linguistics and Special Languages, is a service unit of Leibniz Universität Hannover. It offers a large number of language services to students of all disciplines and faculties.

We now offer German intensive language courses primarily for those learners wo want to study at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. From the beginning, learners will learn German within the university context, with specific learning materials necessary to succeed within a German university.

Where possible, we will include learning German "on the job", within authentic situations for learning German, for example in administration offices, seminars and lectures, the university canteen, and many other places where foreign students will engage in listening and speaking, but also in reading and writing German. In that way, learners will not just learn the language necessary for university situations, but also get to know the university and its structure.

Our aim is to prepare learners starting at various levels for the officially recognised DSH-exam (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) and thus give learners the best headstart for a successful career at university.

At the end of each module there will be an intermediate exam which is essential in order to continue with the follow-up course. Additional placement tests enable us to place participants in the correct courses. In the future, this German intensive course programme shall encompass a full program from beginner level to DSH exam.

Upcoming courses in 2018

Upcoming courses in 2018 see german page.

Important for application from abroad:

- As long as you stay in your home country, please state your home address and NOT an address of a friend staying in Germany.

- Please contact your host country's nearest consulate to determine student visa requirements very early. For required information see website of German Federal Foreign Office/Auswärtiges Amt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

- Please apply personal and communicate in person via d-intensivfsz.uni-hannover.de and not via third party.

- Another important advice according to our experience:
Ealy planning is needed and please consider, that learning German up to C1 level takes some time. To reach B1 level took at least half a year. Up to C1 level takes 7 months in our courses and learning content is twice as much as up to B1 level. Please don't underestimate this.
