English at the Centre for Applied Languages (FSZ)
English has a special role among the foreign languages. It is the language of business, of industry, of science - in short it has become the global "lingua franca", with most of the scientific, technological and academic information in the world being expressed in English.
In today's job market for university graduates, English has become a key qualification, particularly in view of the trend towards integration within the European Union and the general process of internationalisation and globalisation. That means not only excellent English verbal and written communication skills but also knowledge of the specialised language of one's subject, commonly referred to as English for Academic/Specific Purposes, e.g. English for Mechanical Engineering, English for Law, English for Economics, or English for Chemistry.
The English Department of the Centre for Applied Languages (FSZ) of the University of Hanover, provides a wide range of general and specialised English courses as well as other facilities.
